Rotary Club of Akowonjo Earmarks Project for Execution, Commissioning

Rotary Club of Akowonjo one of the clubs under the Rotary International, Nigeria, is set to commission various projects in the Alimosho Local Government Area, the club’s immediate catchment community which also is the largest local government in Lagos State this month. This is in line with the club’s promise to execute impactful projects for the 2018 to 2019 Rotary year.
This revelation was made by the President of Rotary Club of Akowonjo, Rotarian Olabisi Taiwo during her investiture as the 3rdfemale president of the33 years old club chattered by late Past Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Martin Itotoi recently at the Westown Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos.
In an interview after the event, the president told our reporter that all was set for the commissioning of some of the club’s projects in the Alimosho/Akowonjo area of the state by the District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipo whose visit to the club is scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2018.
She identified the projects for commissioning to include the ICT facility at Abati/Rauf Aregbesola Primary School, Alimosho; Flag off of the 2018 Adult Literacy Programme; launching of a new Adult Literacy Signage erected for the school by her club; Tree Planting at the school’s premises and donations to the Little Saints Orphanage, Shasha, Alimosho, Lagos.
According to Rotarian Taiwo, the District Governor’s visit will give the club an opportunity to raise funds towards further execution of other projects within the Rotary year. As she puts it,“after the day’s projects commissioning, the evening fellowship with the District Governor will culminate in an auction sale with the immediate proceeds going to District 9110 Educational and Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF)”.
Speaking earlier during the investiture event, Rotarian Bisi Taiwo noted that: “in accordance with Rotary’s six areas of focus and under my leadership, Youth Empowerment Scheme-Training in various vocations set-up and mentoring; expansion of Library and ICT facilities at Rauf Abati/Aregbesola Primary Schools at Shasha area of Akowonjo; Adult Literacy Programme; donation of food items & clothing to IDP/Orphanages; donation of clinical equipment and Supplies to Akowonjo Primary Health Centre; donation of computers, chairs and tables to Lagos State Agency for Mass Education; donation of writing materials and Schoolbags to pupils of some Lagos State Schools amongst others will be implemented as part of projects for our 2018 – 2019 project year”.
Some of the dignitaries present at the Rotary club’s investiture event included the District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipo; the District Governor Elect, Dr. Jide Akeredolu; the District Governor Nominee, Rotarian Bola Oyebade; the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Bola Adeboye; the Guest Speaker Mr. Idorenyen Enang; Mrs. Prisca Itotoi; Past District Governor, Otunba Bola Onabadejo and His Royal Highness, Oba Olusegun Ogunye, the Ojotumoro of Abigi Kingdom, the Royal Father of the day.
