NCDC confirms 407 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 407 new cases of COVID19 in Nigeria.

The breakdown shows that Lagos has 160, Akwa Ibom -75, and Ondo-51.

Others include Abia-33, Oyo-29, Kaduna-18, Katsina-7, Gombe, and Ogun have 6 each.

Ekiti has 5, Delta-4, FCT-4, Ebonyi-3, Edo, and Niger have 2 each, while Bayelsa and Nasarawa have 1 each.

So far, Nigeria has had 174,315 confirmed cases, with 165,005 discharged and 2,149 deaths.

Today’s report includes 0 cases reported from Kano, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, and Sokoto States.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Steering Committee, PSC, on COVID-19 has called on political parties, state governments, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the State Independent Electoral Commissions, SIEC, to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 protocols in the conduct of all political events in the country.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on covid-19, Boss Mustapha, he said that such events must be carefully controlled to ensure maximum public safety against transmitting the infection among the vulnerable population.

The PSC cautioned all political parties, to institute public health and social measures in all locations where political events will take place while ensuring the

Mandatory use of the face mask by everyone attending the political events.

The statement added that Hand hygiene facilities, including soap and water, hand sanitizers, should be made available to individuals before gaining access to the venues.

He reiterated that enclosed venues should also be adequately ventilated and must not exceed 50% of the venue capacity, while a minimum of 2 meters, should be observed among the people.

However, multiple locations or time-slotting should be used with appropriate numbers of people, to enable adequate physical distancing in each gathering per time.

The PSC implored all Political Parties, INEC, and SIECs to avoid the transmission of the deadly Delta variant of COVID-19 already reported in Nigeria.
