Livestock Feeds Plc Embarks on CSR, Establishes Poultry Farm for School in Agege

L-R: Mrs Omoaka Lucy Emike, Director (Co-curricular, Science and Technology Department) Education District 1, Agege; Mrs. Adewale Oluremi, Principal, Sanngo Senior Secondary School, Agege and Mr. Adegoyega Adedeji, Managing Director, Livestock Feeds Plc, during the commissioning of a small poultry farm, initiated by Livestock Feeds Plc for Sanngo Senior Secondary School, Agege as part of her Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on Monday, May 31, 2021.

Livestock Feeds Plc, a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria marked the 2021 children’s day celebration by establishing a smallholding poultry farm for Sanngo Senior Secondary School, Agege, Lagos state as part of her Corporate Social Responsibility.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project, the Managing Director, Livestock Feeds Plc, Adegoyega Adedeji, stated that the teaching of Agricultural science practical in schools is very pivotal in the Nigeria educational system to equip students with the basic skills required.

“Livestock Feeds Plc CSR initiatives are anchored on the pillars of Education, Sustainable Environment, and Infrastructure. As an organization, our continuous commitment is to remain socially responsible to the communities in which we operate

“The launch of Livestock Feeds Agricultural CSR initiatives in secondary school will further aid the students in appreciating and embracing the science of Agriculture and promote agricultural entrepreneurship amongst the Nigerian youth in the nearest future,” he added.

According to the Managing Director, the objective of the initiative is to support the educational sector in Nigeria with a key focus on bridging theory and practical teachings of the Agricultural science subject in secondary schools.

“This initiative aims to equip students with the basic skills, management techniques and agribusiness proficiency involved in rearing poultry in animal production as well as prepare them for further studies and future occupation in Agriculture. Also, through this CSR initiative, Livestock Feeds aims to achieve one of the seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a particular focus on Agriculture which seeks sustainable solutions to end hunger in all its forms by 2030 and to achieve food security.”

According to the Sales and Marketing Manager, Foluso Alabi, “the poultry farm will equally serve as a mini-research base for the school, government and students. It will provide an opportunity for the students to practically experiment with Agricultural science in a real sense”.

In her address at the event, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Education District 1, Agege, Barr (Mrs) Solarin Titiloya, who was represented by the Director (Co-Curricular, Science and Technology Department), Education District 1, Agege, Mrs Omoaka Lucy Emike, harped on the importance of the project for the students of Sanngo Senior Secondary School in particular and Lagos State in general.

She thanked the Livestock Feeds Plc for their gesture, stating that the farm will expose the students of the school to practical aspects of agriculture and deepen their knowledge in poultry farming and make them self-reliant after graduation.

She charged the students to guard and protect the farm and see it as their own.

Assuring the sponsors of proper usage of the project, she called on them to generally extend the gesture to other schools within the District and Lagos State.

Mrs Omoaka expressed optimism that the project will support the Lagos State government’s developmental goals.

She also used the occasion to call on Nigerians including Institutions and corporate organizations to look inward and assist indigent but brilliant students in our public schools through scholarship and special grant to enable them to realize their educational dreams and contribute their quota to the development of their communities and the nation at large.

“In our public schools in Lagos, many students are very promising academically, but their parents lack the financial capacity to pay for their school fees. We have so many of them. Often because of their performances especially in playing pivotal roles in the upliftment of the name of their schools in various competitions within and outside the state, Principal and teachers came together and contributed to the payment of their West African Examination Council (WAEC) Examination fees and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination fees for them.

“I am appealing to well-meaning Nigerians – corporate and individuals to set aside part of their financial wealth for the sponsorship of the education of these classes of children in our society, Mrs. Omoaka pleaded.

Earlier in her welcome remark, the Principal of the School, Mrs Adewale Oluremi, described the project as an honour for the school, adding that the establishment of the poultry farm in the school “will help to equip students with necessary skills needed to rear poultry animals as well as empower them for the future.”

She enjoined the students to “make use of the opportunity to learn this aspect of agriculture as they acquire their secondary education,” adding that “the waste from the poultry would go a long way in providing manure for the school vegetable garden.”
