A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Tuesday said it will give scholarship to 700 orphans from 7 Igbo states.
The group, which spoke through its president-general, Chidi Ibe, said they will partner a philanthropic organisation to achieve this objective.
Chidi Ibe noted that the organisation would from February 1, 2021, distribute protective materials to students and teachers in to keep them safe from contracting COVID-19.
He said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo will partner with a philanthropic organisation to qualitative education to orphans, we are enrolling free scholarship programmes for orphans, we will offer 700 students writing WAEC and NECO from 7 speaking Igbo states and roll out 7,000 face marks for the seven Igbo speaking states, including Anioma Delta and Rivers states.
“There will be distribution of face marks and PPEs in major markets and public schools in protecting our kids and teachers from COVID-19 pandemic from 1st February 2021 massive distribution of these items will begin in earnest.”
He, however, stated that his faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo would restore the confidence of the race in the Nigerian project.
“We must meet the challenges of Ndigbo head on and restore the confidence of Igbo in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We are aware that Igbo are losing faith in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, based on the elitist nature and agenda of past leaderships and regimes, drastic measures will be put in place for the resuscitation of Igbo faith in Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
